Wearable tech in sport - Hydro Smart

Over this six week period, I have researched, ideated, developed and designed what I hope will be part of the future. My design, Hydro Smart, aims to utilize perspiration sensors that are still being developed, in order to alert athletes to hydrate. This sensor was the base of my project, leaving me to complete the framework and create a useful design solution.

This mood board set the tone for the entire project, highlighting the polished and professional nature that my final artefact should follow.
To determine the exact product I wanted to create, ideation was necessary. Analyzing past and present products related to the sweat sensor would give me an idea of what is missing in the market. Nike sensors, Apple watches and other devices had never tackled hydration or perspiration in detail, which led me to ideating a headband that included the sweat sensor.
After discussing this idea with some potential users, I concluded that a headband may be impractical, and that a wristband could be easier and more convenient for users. The next stage of ideation included refined sketches of the potential product; both wrist and head bands to sense perspiration, and a drink bottle with LED's to indicate when to hydrate.
After crafting some polished sketches of my vision for the future of hydration, I had a clear plan to create the final artefact for submission. However, before creating my final product, I conducted some materials research on similar existing products. This led me to conclude that a silicon inner on the band would repel sweat, while a carbon wrap on the bottle lid and band would add visual effect.
Existing wearable devices utilize silicon as it doesn't absorb sweat, and is hard wearing.
Using the shapes and forms that I experimented with throughout ideation, I developed a CAD model of the drink bottle and band for final submission; a result of my research and ideation.
